Tchockmon Solar Street Light Project

Abala ba ka? How is your soul today? You will be feeling very “tchole” (cool) when you join your diasporan Balanta brothers and sisters in supporting the Tchokmon Solar Streetlights Fundraiser! 

We are rallying together to bring sustainable lighting solutions to the village of Tchokmon in Guinea-Bissau. With limited access to electricity, the community struggles with safety concerns and limited mobility during the night. Our goal is to install solar-powered streetlights that will illuminate the streets, providing a safer environment for residents, especially the children and enhancing their overall quality of life.

By contributing to this fundraiser, you will be making a tangible difference in the lives of the Tchokmon villagers. Solar streetlights will not only enhance safety and security but also promote economic growth by extending the working hours of local businesses and providing a sense of comfort and confidence to the community.

We have just completed the pilot phase 1 successfully. We purchased 8-300w solar streetlights and had them shipped to Guinea-Bissau where our Balanta brother Mario arranged to have them delivered to the village. The total cost was about $100.00 for each solar light, shipped, delivered and included customs fees. As you can see from the photos, the village brothers readily installed them and now at night they have illumination and a safer village.
